Last Words..

So the time draws closer to our time off, our break, our rest, reprieve, respite and all the rest! Our elves are busy maintaining the equipment and making sure everything is spotless for our return in January. We are wrapping up the last few pick – up’s for our day and will soon be off in to the blustery weather ourselves to get last minute shopping, gift wrapping and general Christmasy errand running done before the dinners and festivities begin.

As we have also just passed our winter solstice we hope among the bows and gift wrap, you take time to pause and notice the very eventual lengthening of the daylight. We have just passed the official start of winter (December 21st) which paradoxically marks the return of the light. So maybe then, winter isn’t so bad after all. The cold wind can be harsh, but mother nature softens the blow by allowing us longer days; more sun rays to warm our skin and brighten our days and spirits.

But I digress.

What ever your plans over the next few days we wish you all the best! Enjoy a walk, breath the air and feel the turning of the earth! (and obviously take loads of pictures!!)

Merry Merry!

The Lab Works.

see you in 2014!!

Time for a nap!

The Lab Works Elves have had a very busy season and we have YOU to thank for it!  Thank you for making our year a great one as we look forward to more exciting things to happen in 2014!

As is our tradition, we take a break from December 24th until January 1 (inclusive). We are back in action January 2nd. We hope you also get to take a break. Rest, relax, recharge! And of course, take a lot of pictures of all the fun you’re having!

The Meaning of Christmas

What does Christmas mean for you?

What makes this time of year special for you as many traditions from around the world are celebrated in December!

I’ll start with “mine”. I celebrate Christmas with my family – complete with a fresh green tree strung with lights, a beautifully decorated hearth and lots of yummy food. The meaning of Christmas to me is about family and friends, remembering those I have lost, cherishing the people close to my heart, good food and probably – most definitely The Muppets Christmas Carol at around midnight for a good laugh before bed. I like this time of year as it is a reason to mark the year that has passed.  It is a time for renewal and a time to ground myself and prepare for the year to come. It is a time when everyone makes the effort to gather and to count the blessings of ones life, big and small. Really, it’s an annual turning point.

Whether of Christian faith or not, there is something about this time of year that inspires generosity and warmth. Some people deliver food baskets to those in need, some make donations to charity on behalf of gifts to their family and some of you will volunteer your time in what ever way you can.

We hope that what ever your traditions of the season may be, we wish you well. The following is a Buddhist blessing that can follow you around the whole year.

May you be filled with loving kindness.
May you be well.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
May you be happy.

♥Peace on earth.

Deadline Change!

Once in a Very blue moon…

we overestimate the power of time and human ability to work within the constraints of 24hour clock.

That said, we have to push ahead the deadline for our pressed cards! Due to an overwhelming volume that has come to us up until now, we are officially swamped!

We are changing the cut off for the PRESSED CARDS ONLY to Wednesday, December 11 from the original cut off of Friday December 13th.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please take a look at the Canada Post mailing deadlines as well. You will have until December 17th to get your cards out around the country and to December 18th within Manitoba.

We will re-post our holiday cut off board so stay tuned!
