New Moving Day

New Moving Day!

Lets all breathe a big sigh of relief that The Lab Works will stay at 464 Hargrave until January5, 2015.

This means production as usual this week and all weeks as we do not expect any downtime with the single exception of our regular Christmas closure (during which time we will be moving equipment to it’s new home).

A convergence of details made the decision clear, not the least of which was the possible interruptions in production (meaning, inconveniencing you) during the busiest time of year.

Spread the word to everyone you know! We are relocating to our new home on January 5, 2015.

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE CHANGING HOURS OF OPERATION SLIGHTLY. BEGINNING NOVEMBER 1, 2014 WE ARE OPEN FROM 8:30-5:00 AND NOT 8:00-5:00.

We will keep you posted with Christmas production schedules and regular store closures as always.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We will work extra hard the next two days to make up for it!

100th Post!

100 posts and counting

We started this blog at the dawn of the new year – 2012. Not even 2 years later and we have reached the 100th post! We hope you enjoy reading and feel a little more engaged in the photographic community when you do.

Through this blog, we aim at building our community – even with those of you whom we have not yet met. By virtue of you visiting our website, we have something in common!

We think there is always something interesting to share about photography and Winnipeg and life in general! Over the last year and 9 months, we have posted community events, gallery openings, workshops, given you “assignments” and grieved the loss of people in the photographic community.

Tell us: What does photography mean to you? Why is photography important to you and how do you engage in our rich community? do you engage locally or do you inspire yourself and others in the global sense?

Do you get your images printed? Do you keep albums for your friends and family to look through? Do you look at taking pictures as “record keeping”? Imagery has the capacity to evoke so many memories and emotions. Photographs also help us remember the richness of our lives, and the events and people who make us who we are.

What ever your reasons, we support you.

We hope you continue to read this blog. If you have anything special you think we should talk about, let us know!

Who knows how this will evolve in another 100 posts…..

:)

happy shooting!

We Love Fall

We know it doesn’t last foreverfallphoto1

but sometimes it’s fun to pretend that summer will never end and we will be on a perpetual holiday of sorts ::

Time relentlessly passes and we are back into the fray. On the bright side, fall begins fun things like wrapping up summer weddings, planning for fall photo shoots, lots of gallery events, and this year the big one – The Flash Photo Fest that is happening the entire month of October!

Join the city in this soon-to-be-iconic event. Exhibits are taking place all around Winnipeg but there is an App so you can easily map out your destinations on your mobile. There are photography related events all month long including a studio tour with notorious Winnipeg artist Diana Thornycroft, lighting seminars and various other demonstrations with our city’s finest.

Save the date for the opening night reception at the WAG on October 1.2014.

In short, sometimes the end of summer brings good things!

You just can’t say nothing ever happens in Winnipeg! Have fun exploring the city and the art and artists within it.

Don’t forget to take your camera with you everywhere you go. Shoot a lot - what ever inspires you – and PLAN to take part in next years Flash Photo Fest event!

**The Lab Works is the official print sponsor of the festival, so if you are a participating artist, please see our link on how to save money on printing your show!

Just a little something new…

Every now and then something wonderful comes our way….

This time around, we are building on our much loved Acrylic pieces!

We are still feverishly working at getting all the prices and images up on our website, but you can start ordering now! Call us or come in for prices on the products.

Featured below are two of three new stunners. An amazing 1″ Acrylic block that is meant to sit up on its very own. For this reason, its largest  size is 8×12″. These new pieces have polished edges for a super sleek, modern look.

The second little lovely is an Acrylic mini-block. The Acrylic is 1/4″ thick with polished edges and comes with a stand for sitting up nice on a desk! What a wonderful way to show off your family or vacation on your office desk! Again, the maximum size is 8×12″.

E6/Update

filmsmallFilm’s not dead!

At least not at The Lab Works! As some of you might have already read from an earlier post, Kodak has discontinued manufacturing E6 Chemistry (used to process slide film). It left us in the lurch and with some uncertainty. However, it appears like we are in the clear for a while still and will keep processing your slides and transparency until at least December.

So keep on shooting and keep sending us your film. Our weekly processing schedule is:

Tuesday: C41 (colour negative)

Thursday: C41 and E6 (slides/transparency)

Black and white film is processed on-going and usually takes 2-3 days for completion.

We process 135mm, 120mm, 4×5 and even 110 (for those revivalists shooting Lomo)

If you have any questions please contact us!
